About Dirty Girl Coffee

The Dirty Girl Coffee Story:
More Than Just a Cup

Dirty Girl Coffee is a social enterprise dedicated to advancing women’s economic opportunities both in coffee-growing regions around the world and here in Appalachian Ohio. Every bag of coffee you purchase directly supports women farmers at origin and funds economic development projects in our home community.

In 2015, Jane Cavarozzi was planning to take a year off when she found herself drawn to the community around Glouster, Ohio. After purchasing land near Burr Oak State Park, Jane began spending time in the area and naturally became involved in local conversations about economic challenges and opportunities.

As Jane got to know the community, she realized there was an opportunity to start a business that could contribute to the local economy while also supporting women farmers worldwide.

Coffee was the perfect medium—a product that facilitates conversation and brings people together, while creating a sustainable business model that could support ongoing community development work.

Why "Dirty Girl"?

The name itself is a statement. We want to pay homage to all women who show up, give their all, and take action to make a difference every day. Not for glory, not for praise or pats on the back, not for money or approval. For these women, it’s in their being, it’s in their soul, it’s who they are.

These women aren’t afraid to get dirt under their nails, brush the dust off their jeans, or rub sweat off their brows. They love who they are and what they do. The earth moves and rotates, projecting them to their next adventure. Their next day of getting dirty and being the force they were meant to be.

Quality & Mission Combined

Quality is our passion, coffee is our medium. We use the finest Arabica beans to create exceptional coffees. All the while, we’re supporting women’s economic standing and sustainability both in coffee-growing regions around the world and here in our Appalachian home—it’s how we get dirty.

Your Purchase Creates Impact

When you buy Dirty Girl Coffee, you’re not just getting exceptional coffee—you’re investing in women’s economic progress. We source from women-owned farms and cooperatives whenever possible, ensuring your purchase supports female farmers in coffee-growing regions. Here at home, our profits fund economic development projects through our work with organizations like the Glouster Revitalization Organization, Ohio Women’s Coalition, and Athens County Foundation. From creating remote workspaces and internet access for local students to supporting women entrepreneurs through microloan programs, your coffee purchase becomes a tool for sustainable community development.

Our Home in Glouster

We operate out of Glouster, Ohio, a town near Burr Oak State Park with its beautiful 640-acre lake. Our coffee shop at 82 High Street serves as more than just a place for great coffee–it’s a community space for all.

“One of our roles at Dirty Girl Coffee is to create a healthy, bright, and optimistic space, modeling healthy relationships and respectful communication,” Jane explains. “We engage in daily interactions demonstrating what good, healthy, and respectful conversations look like. Our employees are fantastic at that.”

The second floor is currently being developed as a workspace with high-speed internet for remote workers and students, addressing a critical need in the community where many don’t have internet access at home.

“A few years ago we discovered that 46% of the internet usage at our local library happens after hours,” Jane notes. “Parents sit in the parking lot with their children during winter evenings so they can complete their homework online.” This reality inspired Dirty Girl Coffee to create accessible workspaces with free high-speed internet, transforming our coffee shop into a community resource that supports education and remote work opportunities.
